DJ Drama, Trendsetter DJ Sense and Don Cannon Back Again to Launch ‘The Academy’

Alrighty… It’s been a HIP HOP photography week for me. 🙂

Today, I attended a private press conference with  legendary DJ Drama, Don Cannon (VP A&R Def Jam Records) and Trendsetter DJ Sense,  who announced their newest endeavor to create the next generation of influential radio/club/promo DJs and music executives called “The Academy.”

DJ Drama, Don Cannon and DJ Sense as the Aphilliates are known for breaking the careers of today’s chart-topping artists such as T.I and Young Jeezy and changing the culture of the music industry. Founded in 2003 the Aphilliates can be heard on the airwaves of Radio One-Atlanta WHAT HOT 107.9FM, and Sirius XM and Eminem’s Shade 45. Aphilliates Radio is syndicated throughout the southern region, as one of the top hip-hop radio shows in the nation. The trio has successfully taken their radio show presence to new heights and raised the bar on the term deejay with DJ Drama as one of the most recognizable personalities in the music industry; Don Cannon recently named the Vice President of A&R at Def Jam Records and DJ Sense as a radio executive and marketing brand manager.

The two-day Academy Inaugural Takeover will begin on Monday September 9, 2013 with a private luncheon to introduce the new Academy members to media guests. The two-day series of events includes a community service event at King Middle school with Drama, Don Cannon and Sense and The Academy awarding 25 exemplary students from an Atlanta public school with the Young Men of Influence award at a school ceremony. “DJs have always been the most influential figures in hip hop, music period,” says DJ Sense. “We saw firsthand the influence we had with the artists we believed in and supported.  With that much power, comes a lot of responsibility. We want to encourage young people to use their influence to have a positive impact on their communities.”

Funny story… I asked them to put up a gangster sign for the photo and they said “no fingers up”, just smiles.  LOL, I’ll take it!   Didn’t get a chance to stay for the entire conference (story of my life) but I really enjoyed meeting these guys… Congrats to the team!

Special thanks to Enchanted PR for the invite.
