A true artist will appreciate ALL art.
Skimming through the daily news I came across this fascinating article about the American Artist, Jean-Michel Basquiat. This young star’s work is gaining massive attention 25 years after his untimely death in 1988 at the age of 27. In New York, his blowout Gagosian retrospective saw record attendance and his work is going to appear later this month at Gagosian’s posh Hong Kong gallery for the first time ever (May 25-August 10). -HuffingtonPost.com
Jean-Michel Basquiat was born on December 22, 1960, in Brooklyn, New York. He first gained attention for his graffiti named as “SAMO” in New York City. With a Haitian-American father and a Puerto Rican mother, Basquiat’s diverse cultural heritage was one of his many sources of inspiration. He tagged subway trains and Manhattan buildings with cryptic aphorisms and soon evolved into an acclaimed Neo-expressionist and Primitivist painter by the 1980s. -Biography
