When was the last time you heard a black female country singer?? Meet Mickey Guyton who is taking the world by storm! IMy first introduction to Mickey was during her visit to Atlanta for the 2015 UNCF’s An Evening of Stars red carpet. I remember thinking to myself, “She looks so pretty and lady-like.” Mickey’s agent was walking her down the carpet saying, “You will hear more about this AMAZING young lady!”
My sister and I recorded a soundtrack called “Dream Baby” for the movie “White Man’s Burden” with Hootie and Blowfish tears and years ago. Darius Rucker, lead singer of the group is one of the only African American country singer’s I’ve been exposed to. Oh, and Charlie Pride!
Candace Mycale Guyton, who uses the stage name Mickey Guyton, was born in Arlington TX and started singing gospel music at the age of 5. How fascinating… as a singer I can the influence. 🙂
Although she listened to many different types of artist ranging from Dolly Parton to Whitney Houston… Country music was her passion. On January 10th Mickey made her Grand Ole Opry debut at the Ryman Auditorium and the rest is history. Her performance at the UNCF awards show on April 12, 2015 was unforgettable and I was totally blown away! Wishing her all the best 🙂
