Yes indeed… TV One is presenting an ENCORE showing of “Love Under New Management: The Miki Howard Story” starring Teyonah Parris and featuring a special cameo appearance from the one and only Miki Howard! This is the network’s first-ever bio-pic inspired by TV One’s signature series Unsung.
Back in the day… you couldn’t tell me I wasn’t Miki Howard with “LOVE under new management”. I was only a teenager but it was an anthem for women and awakening as I began to embrace my heavenly father and could translate into spiritual meaning. “The closing of my door… I had to tear it DOWN… a new world of happiness turned me around. Someone very special came into my life”… YES, the lyrics to that song brought chills to my spine and I loved how she sung with such authority and soul.
To all of you newbies… Here’s a YouTube video I found of this remarkable woman and song I have admired since childhood.
Before all of her success… Miki Howard was a homeless teenager estranged from her gospel singer mother and desperate for love, attention and success. This film candidly explores the complicated history of Howard’s romantic relationship with R&B singer Gerald Levert, the tumultuous relationship with her mother, and her battles to overcome spousal abuse and drug addiction
Here’s a sneak peak of the trailer and be sure to tune in June 12th at 7PM est.:
